Dural Methor DrPH - 1316) Keira strode into sickbay and located Doctor Dural fairly quickly. "How's our patient doing, Doctor?" Dural looked up, his usual cool demeanor a little rough around the edges. "We have hundreds of patients, you'll have to be a bit more specific, Captain." "Petty Officer First Class Tarol Aurin, the one with extensive radiation damage." the Romulan woman specified. "That does narrow it down a bit. We've only got three of those..." the Cardassian said with a wry smile. The smile was immediately replaced with the cool detachment of a physician before he spoke again. "Mister Aurin is resting as comfortably as I can make him. I've given him a dissociative and he is heavily sedated." "How long until he recovers?" Keira asked. "I don't think you realize how extensive his wounds are." his blue eyes narrowed. "He'll need a starbase medical facility. I've managed to stabilize him. His road to recovery will be long and arduous, but I believe he's going to pull through." The Captain held her hands up; an appeal for any verbal misstep. "Of course we'll bring him to starbase. Once I've gotten to the bottom of this, we'll make our best speed there." "Thank-you." Dural clasped his hands together as a gesture of gratitude. "The Petty Officer has done a lot for us, he helped make the mission a success." Merek paused. "He's got just a little bit more to go. I need to speak with him." "He's sedated, I'm afraid he's not much of a conversationalist." Dural warned. He'd heard this line of conversation before. "I need you to wake him, counteract whatever you've given him. He has information we need." Keira stated. "He's in terrible pain, he just doesn't know it. I've put him in a coma to spare the pain. I wake him now he feels it all. The pain of millions of cells dying!" The Chief Medical Officer pleaded, or demanded. It was actually a little of both. "Doctor, he may have the information we need.." Keira reasoned. "Then again, he may not...." Dural shot back. "Listen, I know you have the authority to order me to wake him up against any Doctor's better judgment," Dural explained. "However, can you live with yourself if he doesn't have the information you need? What if he can't articulate it? Surely you'd be able to explain it to yourself if the knowledge locked away in his gray matter helps, if he can't and you've essentially tortured this poor soul for nothing?" "Perhaps you're right." Keira relented. ~Of course I'm right.~ Dural thought. "I'm glad you saw it from my perspective." Dural said, relieved. Just then one of the medical technicians pointed to the monitors in sickbay. "Doctor Dural?" That brought the CMO and the Captain's attention to the monitors, now all displaying the Earth Greek letter Omega. "Is this everywhere, or just sickbay?" Dural asked. Keira was familiar with the image. He had hoped to find somebody, anybody, who held any answers to the questions behind what, exactly, was going on at that science station. This creature they had brought back was just the tip of the iceberg. He had gotten no answers. It seemed that everyone involved had been killed in the initial explosion of the station. His next step was to head to the xenobiology lab and talk to the science officer who, hopefully, had already started making a risk assessment of having such a creature on the ship. He tapped his PADD to find the name of the scientist when a strange symbol appeared on its screen. He was not familiar with the symbol so he went to the wall computer. The captain had just announced that she knew what was happening. Jayc had an idea, not because of his command training but his science training. Cal Dogan -1355) Cal could sense an air of… sarcasm in the CO’s voice, but she was answering his question so he focused on her words. "Omega molecules are a very high-energy particle. Rumored to be present at the Big Bang. One such particle if stabilized would be able to generate more power than a warp core. One. Molecule. Problem is, Omega is highly unstable and tends to explode if it's not stabilized, which is most of the time. With me so far?" The Brikarian allowed for his brain to digest the overview, still uncertain why it created such a threat since he’d encountered many forms of unstable molecules that make explosives. He was certain that Lt. Taylor, from the Illuminar, could probably name most of them off by heart. “So far, so good,” he nodded. She went on the give a short history of the Omega particle, especially from a Federation perspective. "The Federation's attempt left one hundred twenty-seven officers dead and an entire sector of space unable to be traversed by warp speed." Dogan’s eyes narrowed slightly as he attempted to put what he knew into place. Could she be talking about the Lantantaru Sector? The problem with having an unexplained phenomenon was that it often created its own myths and legends. Val worked on hard facts, not stories. He nodded for the the Captain to continue. She began to explain the Onega Directive and the order to “seek out and nullify or destroy” said particle.” He wasn’t to keen on the idea of suppressing information. That order, if taken to its broadest definition, could act as permission to wantonly murder or cleanse a people. “If the actual existence of the particle was is so potentially devastating, wouldn’t the act of destroying actually cause the repercussions that are feared?” he asked. “How would we go about, safely, removing that threat?” "Normally it's suggested to secure the area,” Merek said, “and allow a team to come in with special equipment to come and deal with it. Captain Janeway proved that is unnecessary. The Hades is far better equipped with her weaponry than those teams and certainly better than an Intrepid Class." “Now that we are all know about this,” Cal said, “are we allowed access to the research information for Voyager on how we can… what… destabilize the particle without causing it to explode?” "We can procure or produce some gravimetric torpedoes, part of the normal for dealing with Omega. I know they aren't on our standard stocking list, though I have faith in your abilities." She indicated to all three. Cal ran through the weapons inventory of the Hades, contemplating what they had that could be adjusted to produce such a wave. "Right now, we run all commands through the bridge. No one but the four of us is to know exactly what we are working on, or anything about Omega. Keep them completely in the dark, compartmentalized." Keira explained how she wanted it to go down. “That will not be an easy task,” Dogan said, “as Federation people tend to be… curious. And once denied access to information intensifies the curiosity.” He pulled out his PADD and began to work on an algorithm that would recognize any search of the anomaly they’ve encountered and suppress it. He also expanded the program to reroute all communications regarding their work through a secured sever that would inform him, personally, and shut down the comms. "Number One, I want you to have the fighters come in. I don't know why they didn't react to Omega, maybe their sensors weren't designed to pick it up. After he got all the craft into maintenance cycles. It had been a while since he had run one of his father's old programs, since there was nothing on the duty docket after the mission and training cycles started tomorrow Sean decided it was time to dust off that old program. He entered as always through the locker room. Went to his dad's old locker, entered the code into the archaic mechanical lock: Left Nineteen - Right Eight - Left Six. The locking mechanism now easily opened revealing a drab green flight suit, Lt. Colonel Masters USAF. Knowing the nature of the program, on the holodeck Sean knew he could easily adjust it and have his own flight suit and helmet, but something just felt right wearing his father's, it fit, and he really didn't have a callsign yet. Not a true one, given by some deed performed or quirk that endeared him to his flight crew either by fame or infamy. "You ready, sport?" came the familiar voice. "What are we going to do today?" Sean asked, just the way he did back then. "You wanna run the canyon? Do a little dog-fighting?" Doug asked. "Wouldn't mind taking out some MIGs, trigger finger's getting a little itchy." Sean said with a grin. "Well then you'd better get a move-on, we're burning daylight." the holographic simulacrum chided him. "Yessir!" Sean said standing straight after just lacing up his boots. He grabbed his helmet bag and headed out to the flight line. A short stroll down the long flight line and a well-maintained pre-eugenics war jet fighter waited for Sean. An F-16D to be precise. His father used to take him out on these little excursions to the holodeck when he was younger. "Preflight's been done you just have to get in." Doug said. Sean nodded as he climbed up the ladder leading to the pilot's chair. He took the front seat leaving the rear for the hologram. He settled in, put on his helmet and harness while the hologram did the same. Once both were secure Sean closed the canopy. Soon the onboard radio began speaking. =^= Falcon Six, this is the tower you are cleared for taxi to runway three-zero. =^= "I know it's been a while, you think you can make your way over to runway three-zero?" Doug asked. "Yeah," Sean said and then started to grin.."As soon as you come up here and show me where the throttle is on this thing...." They both started laughing as they taxied to the start of the appropriate runway. "Tower this is Falcon Six ready for take off." =^= Falcon Six you are cleared for take off. =^= Sean with his left hand on the throttle pushed it slowly and easily forward, engaging the jet engine they were both sitting on and strapped to. It roared to life, pushing him uncomfortably so against the pilot seat. The plane zoomed to the end of the runway and Sean pulled up with his right hand causing the jet's nose to come up and lift off the ground. "Make your heading One-seven-zero degrees and we'll head off to the mission area." Doug said. Sean did as told and banked to assume the new heading. The brown desert ground zoomed beneath him as the jet flew along. As the area they were headed towards came into view a sudden announcement from the computer broke his concentration. [Warning. Imminent shutdown of current program. Mission parameter override in 3...2...1... shutdown.] "What the....?!" Sean said as the sprawling sky of the western side of the North American continent was replaced with the yellow on black grid of the holodeck. Can you think of anything I’m not thinking of.” The light from the console lit up the Brikarian’s face eerily. He turned and looked saying, “There is still an excess of tetryon particles escaping from the point of contact for the implosion. This shows a rift in subspace that is dangerously close to an instability.” Jayc’s head turned toward the door, “The captain’s here,” he announced casually. Just then, the door to the holodeck opened with its tell-tale mechanical whining and reverse sound. The captain stepped in and surveyed the program. Jayc smiled. “Worries about our progress Captain?” He asked. "I did come here for an in person status report." Keira announced. Dogan stood away from the console, letting his eyes adjust to the lighting. “Captain Merek. We’ve made a great deal of progress. I believe that we are close to success. However there is still an inordinate excretion of tetryon particles from a fissure in subspace during the process.” Jayc nodded. “If we pass this hurdle, we are within the safety margin to proceed.” He held up a finger suddenly. “Cal what about beaming a transmitter behind the device to emit an inverse harmonic frequency during the black hole construction? That should diffuse the readings we are getting during simulation!” He looked at both officers. Dogan thought for a moment. “Transporting into a nebula has, typically, proven to be… erratic. Perhaps we could put a preprogrammed drone to park itself in that location. Same result, just avoiding the issues with any magnetic flux that would affect a transport.” “Magnetic locking mechanism for the decking or hull or support beams.” Keira concentrated while the pair spoke back and forth. She looked over the readings, she tried to remember some of the lessons she’d learned over the years, the official and the unofficial ones. “Lieutenant Jayc, what is the maximum potential output of the tetryon radiation?” “2.1 x 10 to the 47th power is the highest our instruments are able to detect, which is only somewhat better than Voyagers, and these readings blind our instruments temporarily….. so impossible to ascertain as of current science.” He saw her face with an unanswered response. But she pushed on “...and that appogee point of the output is right about here?” She said, indicating a point on the display. “Correct,” the Betazoid responded after looking at the readings Merek pointed out. “However,” Dogan added, “I believe that Lt. Jayc’s idea of an inverse harmonic frequency generator on the far side of the station would solve those issues, perhaps even eliminate them. I would, of course, still recommend that we go to warp immediately after triggering the black hole. Just in case.” He tapped on his console and place the probes in the desired location. “I believe we are prepared to run the next simulation, Captain, if you care to observe.” “Wouldn't miss it.” Keira said as she rounded the bridge railing and Sat down in the Captain's chair. With a final addition to his calculation Cal tapped the commence button. The scene if the station just inside the nebula came to life. The wave of the dark matter phasers washed across the area and there was a flash. Then there was a counter flash from the probes and a tiny hole in space appeared. The readings on the console began to beep when the hole suddenly closed, taking with it the station and everything in its immediate vicinity. The simulation ended and the data began to scroll across the two active screens. “Tetryon emission reduced by 87%,” he reported. “Well within acceptable parameters.” Jayc nodded and added. “There’s no way to save the station though, Captain. There will be no physical evidence of what we found save what we brought aboard from the rescue mission.” “It would seem….” Keira began. =^= OPS to Captain Merek, there is a vessel on high warp intercept course. =^= “Who is she?” The Captain answered after tapping her combadge. =^= Friend-Foe interrogations of subspace transponder yield no response. =^= Dogan frowned, if that's what it was. On screen they could see the station begin to get dragged back into the nebula as it began to break apart. Jayc began to count down the eventuality of the station disappearing over the event horizon of the micro black hole. There was an expense of energy that was held within the gravitational pull of the black hole. “Cut phasers!” the science officer called out. Dogan tapped the key a second time and the sensation of pressure ceased. Cal watched the sensors as the area of the black hole dimisjed until it was completely gone. “System returning to normal configuration,” Jayc report. Cal checked his readings again and said, “I concur. The black hole has eliminated itself and the … anomalous readings are also gone with it.” The tactical readout beeped and Cal opened up the sensor readings. “Captain, the unidentified ship has halted its progress. It’s slowly backing away from the nebula.” (reply Merek) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Hades- Bridge - CSciO/20, Lt. SG. Broken free floating portions of the station began to move slowly forming a stream like material caught in a current. Then. Weaker parts of the station began to bend and buckle. atmosphere in several areas blew out into space and immediately joined the arc toward the artificial cingularity. The harmonics showed a widening and the targeted region on the main viewer erupted. The computer simulation showed an omnidirectional subspace decimating blast did not happen. Instead it skated outward in multi concentric rings that swelled only two bend and alter and flow in swirling power toward the singularity. “Gamma burst is imminent,” Tens warned. Jayc stood and reached over typing a sequence. “Shield opening to galactic north south to avoid space faring regions.,” he stated. The raw power of the omega particle and the mass of nebula matter created a burst of gamma rays energizing and lancing from the top and bottom of the black hole. It was a flare of unbelievable power and light! “Cut phasers ! “ Jayc ordered. The phasers ceased the gamma blasts stopped their two directional needle like streak across the cosmos and within moments the black hold diminished folded in on itself and winked out of existence. All that remained were the blinking circle of probes and a clean patch of nebula where debris and the broken mass of the station had been. “Systems returning to normal configuration, Captain.” Jayc leaned back in his chair and let out a loud breath over the typical bridge sounds. (Reply any) (Posted by tinmanjayc) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Hades –Bridge - CO, Captain Keira Merek - 1455) Keira watched as her orders were executed. The coordination between departments was truly astounding. It would have more of an impact if coordination wasn't something that was run of the mill for your average Tuesday on the USS Hades. The exceptional part was this was an entirely new task, not something they had drilled into the ground. It was an entirely new procedure that they had made up on the fly, within the last couple hours. She watched as they created a small singularity. Small but mighty. Literally so dark even light couldn't escape. An eldritch deep space horror with a voracious appetite it smashed, squished and swallowed the station piece by piece. The instability caused by the station's final destruction released what she surmised was the omega particle that had been incubating, hidden away in unknown parts of the station. “Gamma burst is imminent,” Tens warned. Jayc stood and reached over typing a sequence. “Shield opening to galactic north south to avoid space faring regions.,” he stated. Even the bright flash was too swallowed by the voracious monster. Keira had to look to the sensors to see anything further in the Stygian darkness of space. The gamma release was massive. The power output readings showed it likely would have destroyed any ship wandering too close. The procedure was winding down. Even the cosmos where the station used to be started settling down, other than a slight weakening in subspace seemed to be calm. “Systems returning to normal configuration, Captain.” Jayc said letting out an audible breath. Keira watched as the unknown ship started slowly turning around, then quickly picked up speed in an instant had changed heading one hundred eighty degrees and punched it to high warp. They were gone. "Did we get any other readings on that ship?" Keira asked. "Dimensions? Placement and configuration of thrusters, impulse and warp nacelles, but any readings on potential power output, nope. Nada, zilch." Ops responded. "Stand down from alert." Keira ordered. (Reply any) "Set course for Starbase Freedom. Warp six. Engage." She ordered. "Warp six, aye." The helm responded. He quickly recorded the energy signature of the space around where the ship was and saved it to be analyzed later. “Stand down from alert,” the Captain ordered. He tapped the key to end the red alert. There was release of tension from the other officers on the bridge as people moved more freely. Merek ordered the ship to head to Starbase Freedom and left the bridge in Williams control. The FO looked over at Jayc and himself and told them, “If you want to hand over to reliefs and grab a quick break do so.” Dogan shrugged, “There is no respite for the chief of security.” Then his eyes looked to Semaj, who had been manning the tactical station before. “However, Ensign Semaj, you may take some time. Perhaps you and Lt. Jayc might enjoy some time together.” (reply Semaj, Jayc) He then returned his attention to the tactical station and checked the condition of the shields and weapons systems. Once satisfied that the ship was functioning within parameters he looked at the duty roster to ensure everyone was where they should be. Finally he pulled up the readings that he had taken from the ship. Earlier they hadn’t been able to make any sense of the reading from the ship but after some adjustments to the sensor data somethings started to fall into place. He was going to need some help. It was her former Captain Trip who had introduced her to the Earth drink known as a Latte, which was a coffee drink mixed with milk, and often, sugar and other flavorings. It didn't take her too long to start making them with the much stronger Klingon coffee Raktajino. Even with her Romulan metabolism it could keep her up restless well into the night. "Tea, mint, hot two sugars." Keira ordered from the replicator. A brief sound of sparkles and empty air was replaced with a piping hot tea cup and saucer displaying in Starfleet standard font. "USS Hades NX - 60637 - A" and the UFP Starfield flanked by laurel wreaths. She picked up the saucer, and by proxy the cup and brought it to the desk, set it down on the left side and swivelled the mounted PADD so that she could see it better from the chair, and sat down. She quickly signed and swiped through all the mundane and banal paperwork, transfers, equipment requests etc before she came to some that she had been mulling over, well ever since the Hades had left Jupiter Station. ~Ever since she left under my command.~ She gave them careful thought, and brought the tea up to her lips before deciding it was still too hot. She set the cup back down and placed her thumb on them, signing them. She sent out an announcement for a post mission staff meeting the next day at Zero Eight-Hundred. He glanced at the eta for their arrival to star base freedom and nodded to himself. With the ships high transit speed, they were making good time. Unfortunately for him they were going in the wrong direction. He would have preferred to be going back to earth so that he could Greta and peanut. He knew that it was safer for them to be back on earth as life on board a Starfleet vessel was hardly safe. He knew that he sounded hypocritical as that was exactly how he had grown up, but he still missed them so much when they were not around. He made a mental note to comm her when they had arrived at freedom to see how they were both going. He picked up a PADD that was on the arm of the chair and began to look at the up dated sector reports on shipping and unusual situations that had occurred. He wanted to make sure that he was up to speed on anything that would affect the Hades and her crew while they were on and around starbase freedom. He noted a couple of things that he marked to make sure that he would go back to later. A flagged message appeared on his table. He frowned for a moment as it was addressed to Chief Flight Officer rather than First Officer. ~Maybe it’s a list of stores for the fighters~ He opened the message and found that it was an equipment request list. He quickly scanned the list of requested equipment that would get sent to Freedom and hopefully be ready to bring aboard while they were there. He saw another attached message from the lead pilot requesting that the whole flight get some flight time with the Freedom’s fighter wing while they were there. Ire nodded to himself. It would be good for them to get the while flight out in one go and do some flight tactics rather than just ones and twos. He authorized both requests and went back to looking at the sector report. It did not happen often when she was on duty, and she could normally keep it under control. Unfortunately, the day had been hard and long which meant that she was not able to go for her normal brakes to help relieve the pressure. ~I guess the fear of death dose that to a person~ She knew that she was pushing it close as the itching that normally just affected her finger tips and would move to her palms when it was bad, had migrated to her arms. ~Better get started~ “Computer activate program Kovak Gamma.” [Selected program can cause harm to participant as safe protocols will be deactivated, please indicate if you wish to continue] “Yes computer I will to activate program Kovak Gamma.” [Affirmative program activated] The grid lines walls changed to a small stone amphitheatre high in the mountains with a smaller dais in the middle which looked out over a beautiful valley with the glint of the sea in the distance. The dais contained two plinths running out from the plinths across the amphitheatre snaked conductive conduit. She took a deep breath of cool mountain air as she stepped onto the dais, knelt between the plinths and placed her hands on each one feeling the cool conduit under her palm. She had designed the program from an old archaeology site that had been found on her home world in the northern mountain range. It had been assumed that it was a place of worship or a meeting place scholars disagreed on which, but the purpose was obvious. In the times where her people had less control on their ability, they would come to places like this to discharge themselves like she was doing now. She took another deep breath and calmed herself. The itching in her hands grew in intensity and the pain began. She felt the snap of electrical discharge and she smelt the growing smell of ozone as it started. She gave a gasp as the pain stabbed through her hands. ~Focus, Ciri come on focus~ The quickest way of doing this would be to dump all her charge into the system which would cause her less pain but would blow the power relays. An image of a screaming CPO from the academy flickers into her mind when she had blown the dorms power relays when she had dumped all her charge into the system after getting into an argument with one of her classmates about something she could not remember. It had taught her that Starfleet systems were not as hardened then at home. She looked out over the valley feeling the cool air on her face as she tried to get her mind into a meditative state. She had done this before and new that no matter how hard she tried she would not be able to clear her mind enough. ~Not like my sister that’s fir sure but she did not have a lot in there to start with~ She knew that she was being unfair, but the process always made her angry and grumpy. She felt a pressure swell up inside her and with a loud snap the pain and pressure were gone. She leaned back rubbing her hands to get some feeling back into them as she took some calming breaths. She looked at and dais’s and saw a flicker of discharge dance over the conduits before it dissipated. She knew that the program would shunt the electricity into the holodeck surge buffer before depositing it into the ships power supply. She stood up on wabbly legs and turned. “Computer arch.” A doorway appeared at the top level of the amphitheatre. She could have closed the program there and then, but she had found that the climb up to the door helped her start to regain her equilibrium. So, on steading legs she began to climb to the door and back to shift. Lieria had decorated her room on all six surfaces which made sense he though not for the first time for some one who lived in zero-g. He saw her in one corner at a desk away from all the monitors she normally worked at. “How are you doing?” He drifted up beside her and grabbed a hand hold to stop his momentum. She looked over at him and smiled. “I am doing fine but I am not sure if I can say the same thing about Bert here.” He looked past her to see what looked like a small potted plant. “Bert?” She nodded. “Yes Bert was sent to me from home and arrived just before we left. I though that it was doing well but now I am not sure, and I thought that you might have an idea.” “What because I resemble a tree?” She shrugged as she moved out of the way to let him see. He looked at the plant, getting in close before giving it a poke with his finger. He moved back and gave her a look. “Have you tried talking to it?” She rolled her eyes and gave him a shove. He drifted across the room and bounced off the far bulkhead. “That was uncalled for.” He protested. “Of course I talk to Bert. I talk to it more then I talk to you.” He drifted back but made sure that he would out of her range. “Not much help you are.”“I am a security officer not a botanist.” She gave a sigh. “Well, me and Bert will just have to struggle on regardless.” She looked at him. “Did you bring me a snack?” He nodded and passed her a small box. “All you seam to do is eat deserts.” She grinned at him. “It takes a lot to keep me in peak condition so I can eat all the sugary treats that I like.” He gave her a sceptical look. For some who spent most of her day in zero-g she had a very athletic physique. “The walk to work and back in normal gravity is more then enough workout for me and if that is not enough all I have to do is change the gravity in my quarters.” She opened the box and smiled. “That’s more than enough to compensate for my little snacks.” She picked out something covered in sugar and bit into it. He saw the delight cross her face. “You really know how to spoil me. Thank you.” “No problem.” He said as he began to turn towards the door. “Don’t go. I have a couple of things that I want to show you, and you can help me with these as you started to give me a complex.” She grinned at him as she pushed another surgery thing towards him and pushed off towards the bank of screens.
